The most important holiday in Sicily is Easter, celebrated all over Sicily. People march through the cities to the big churches performing plays with stories from the Bible on their way. On the third Sunday in May takes place the Flower Festival of Noto, the Infiorata. In the heart of the historic old town on the Via Nicolaci, one of the avenues Noto, a colorful carpet of flowers unfolds. This is a fabulous spectacle known far beyond the borders of Sicily.
One of the annual events in Sicily is the festivals of the Sicilian car, "Caretto Siciliano”. Here, according to old traditions, the cars of the town are brightly decorated and presented. Long time ago the poor Sicilians wanted to look like the rich ones at least once a year so they decorated their cars. The Caretto Siciliano takes place in many cities during the Easter week.
Christmas in Sicily, as in most countries of the world, is the highlight of the year. The strictly orthodox Sicilians celebrate Christmas and the birth of Christ in a very traditional way. It is tradition to build Presepe (cribs) and in some villages locals dress up and re-enact the Nativity with living babies in the cribs.
